The team Alé BTC Ljubljana is confirmed in the top 5 of the UCI world ranking of women’s cycling thanks to a series of other important results with the Swiss Marlen Reusser who today finished in second place in the final classification of the Ceratizit Challenge by La Vuelta.
A very important and prestigious result for the Swiss road and time trial champion and for the whole team of president Alessia Piccolo. Reusser climbed on the second step of the final podium in Santiago de Compostela, next to the winner, the Dutch Annemiek Van Veluten (Movistar Team). The fourth and final stage was won by Belgian Lotte Kopecky (Liv Racing). In the Spanish race, Reusser – well supported by her team – won the first stage with a beautiful solo action in the final, finished second in the Time Trial valid for the second stage and wore the red jersey of race leader for two days, before giving it to Van Vleuten.
The team manager Fortunato Lacquaniti expresses his satisfaction: “I’d say it couldn’t have gone better than this. We won a stage and finished second in the general classification. Something unhoped for at the beginning, but in the end I think it was more than deserved. Even in the last few stages we were always up there with the best riders and that means that the general condition is very good. I think what our team is doing in this period is something exceptional. It’s the fourth podium in the WorldTour, still obtained in a stage race, which I think is even more difficult, we won a stage and for a small team like ours these are incredible results. The continuity of performance and results that our team has shown in the last two months, from the Giro d’Italia onwards, has been amazing. I’ve seen a clear growth of the whole team that has pushed us up in the world rankings and towards great victories in WorldTour races like Burgos, Norway, Simac Tour and now La Vuelta. We were super competitive, in these last days Marlen Reusser has shown to be in a great condition and now we think about the next commitments, we want to continue to do well at Tour de l’Ardeche and then we will have European and World Championships”. To complete the good performance at La Vuelta came also the excellent third place for Alé BTC Ljubljana in the team classification. “Considering that we started with only five riders and today we were only four, I can say that this is a great result”.
