Last hours of training camp for the girls of Alé BTC Ljubljana team, the only Italian UCI WorldTour Women’s team, that since last 18 January are in Spain, guests of Cap Negret Hotel in Altea, near Alicante. A fundamental step at the beginning of the season, to lay the foundations for all the goals of the year and to build the team spirit.
The 12 athletes, directed by team manager Fortunato Lacquaniti, sports directors Giuseppe Lanzoni and Gorazd Penko and new coach Michele Devoti, with the support of Simone Casonato of Science of Cycling Italia, have carried out ten days of testing and intense training, taking advantage of the tranquility of the roads and the mild temperatures of the Iberian coast to put precious kilometres into the legs.
Team manager Fortunato Lacquaniti explains: “We worked very well with the girls. We also had good weather conditions that allowed us to follow the preparation programme regularly and we trained very intensively. The physical tests were also very positive, we tried the various technical materials provided by our valuable partners and I can say that we are very satisfied. The level of the team is good and we have a very complete squad for different types of terrain. We also did some specific work to perfect the set-ups for the time trials”.
The feeling that has been established in the group and the acclimatization of the new arrivals are also excellent. “We have a really good group and the four newcomers, Reusser, Wright, Tomasi and Patuelli, have integrated very well. There has always been a peaceful atmosphere and all the girls have shown tenacity and commitment even during the most physically demanding days”.
The team’s season debut is set for Sunday 7th February at the Vuelta CV Feminas, the opening race of the international women’s calendar, while the Setmana Valenciana, which was scheduled from 18th to 21st February, has been cancelled.
