The International UCI Road Cycling Season 2019 Women Elite officially started in Australia, with the opening stage of the Santos Women’s Tour Down Under (Hahndorf - Birdwood, 112.9 kms). The Team Alè - Cipollini becomes one of the main protagonists taking the 10th place in the sprint with Chloe Hosking and the QOM provisional lead with the young Italian Nadia Quagliotto. The stage has been won by Letizia Paternoster.
The #YellowFluoOrange Team, directed by Giuseppe Lanzoni, was composed by the Captain Chloe Hosking and her teammates Romy Kasper, Jessica Raimondi, Nadia Quagliotto, Eri Yonamine and Marjolein Van’t Geloof: the athletes started fast pointing to the breakaways and the Intermediate Points on the three cathegorized climbs of the day. Nadia Quagliotto was the best, winning 22 points that permit her to wear the polka dot jersey as best climber at the end of the stage. At the final sprint in Birdwood Chloe Hosking finished 10th but she jumps on the 3rd place overall due to the results at the intermediate sprints, with just 5’’ of delay from Letizia Paternoster. The Commonwealth Champion is also second in the Points Classification, behind her compatriot Sarah Roy (65 points against 49).
The second stage will take place tomorrow, from Nuriotpaa to Angaston: the uphill finish is on the top of Mengler Hill after 116.7 kms.
