BIRA, SANTESTEBAN AND BASTIANELLI ON THE PODIUM AFTER THE STAGE 2

The Italian team continues its magical moment at the Emakumeen Bira: Ane Santesteban finished close to the victory in the stage 2 (Markina/Xemein - Markina/Xemein, 90.2 kms), beated only by the Australian Amanda Spratt after a short duel in the breakaway. The two riders ended with a 26’’ gap from the bunch of the overall leader Marta Bastianelli, who won the srint for the third place and two #YellowFluoOrange ladies on the podium. Soraya Paladin was also one of the biggest protagonists, as he was in a breakway with two other athletes.
Ane Santesteban climbs into the place 2 of the GC with just 5’’ from the new leader Amanda Spratt and she is still the best Basque athlete. Marta Bastianelli is third with 22’’ and leads the Points Classification. Soraya Paladin earns places in the overall ranking, being now 7th wit 35’‘.
Fabiana Luperini commented: “It was a very positive performance as we had two athletes on the podium- The real altimetrical troubles begin tomorrow and the GC would become more interesting.”
Ane Santesteban is extremely happy: “The second place after so many difficulties in the past weeks makes me so happy. Today we couldn’t win but we will retry, the team raced very well being in every breakaway. We have been great!”
The Stage 3, Antzuola - Antzuola, 77.6 km, has the first main troubles, like the cathegorized climb of Deskarga (Cat. 2) and the final kilometers which are slightly uphill.
