Nobody expected a better return for Ane Santesteban: the Basque climber finished the Durango - Durango Race (113 km) with a brilliant sixth place, a few weeks since her bad crash in training. She became one of te biggest protagonists of the race, which was won by the Dutch Annemiek Van Vleuten.

A small group was in the breakaway and included also the 2007 World Champion Marta Bastianelli. The Roman rider didn’t want to hide herself, as she passed first on the first passage on the top pf the Gouria Gaina KOM, then she won the special Sprints Classification. The performance convinced a lot, the day before the start of the Emakumeen Bira, a Stage race in the Basque Country which begins on Wednesday with a 50 kms long Stage.

“We all consider this 6th place like a victory” - declared the Sports Director Fabiana Luperini - “It’s fundamental for Ane to restart so well and it is a joy for all of us. We start the Emakumeen Bira with important goals, starting with the stage 1 which suits a lot to Marta.”

Ane Santesteban says excited: I am really happy, the recover from the crash was really tough. The team is really near me and I thank everyone. I didn’t think to restart racing so good.”
