Continues the excellent moment of the team Alé BTC Ljubljana that today has closed as a protagonist the Simac Ladies Tour, in Holland, a test of the UCI Women’s WorldTour, one of the most important races of the international calendar, at home of the strongest opponents.
After the success in the ITT and the unlucky stage with a crash that cost her the supremacy, the Swiss Marlen Reusser finished today at the second place in the final general classification of the Dutch race, with 17 seconds of delay from Chantal Van den Broek-Blaak (SD Worx). In today’s final stage, the silver medallist in the Time Trial at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics finished in eighth place at the finish line in Arnhem, completing a very positive week for her and the entire Italian team.
Although there were only three girls left in the race, the girls gave everything in a challenging race, often targeted by bad weather and the testimony is also the second place in the team standings just behind the team of the winner. Marta Bastianelli deserves a big applause, often placed and in the end excellent ninth in the general classification and Laura Tomasi who was the fifth best young rider in the race. Both of them, especially in the last days, did an excellent job also in the service of their captain Reusser. A great team spirit and proof that they can compete with the best in the World.
Team manager Fortunato Lacquaniti is of the same opinion: “The second place in a WorldTour stage race I think is an excellent result for our team. We got with Marlen the second WorldTour victory of the year, after Burgos, and I think only a bit of bad luck prevented us from winning the race. That day of the crash that stopped all but seven riders cost us 29 seconds against Blaak. If it hadn’t been for that crash that stopped Marlen we would have won by 20 seconds, I have no doubt. The team was all for her and she showed that every day. But that’s part of the game, we have an open account with luck, but I think we showed once again that we are a great team. Despite the fact that we were down to just three riders in the last two stages, we were always there, we got stage placings and Marta Bastianelli and Laura Tomasi deserve a big round of applause for their commitment. We have confirmed our value and the great moment we are living in these last two months. It is no coincidence that we occupy the sixth position in the UCI World Team Ranking. Now we hope to continue on this path for the last block of races of the season until La Vuelta”.
