Great performance of Mavi Garcia today in the Flèche Wallonne Féminine, the Spanish rider of Alé BTC Ljubljana confirms herself among the best in the world in one of the most important classics of the international calendar.
Mavi Garcia managed to stay in the top group in the final part of the race, a quintet that also included world champion Anna van der Breggen, Poland’s Katarzyna Niewiadoma, Italian champion Elisa Longo Borghini and European champion Anniemiek van Vleuten. The five caught the American Ruth Winder on the first slopes of the Mur de Huy and then fought for victory on the toughest slopes of the climb.
World champion Anna van der Breggen won for the seventh time in a row and Mavi Garcia took an excellent fifth place.
Spanish rider Mavi Garcia was beaming: “I’m quite happy with my performance, I felt very good today and I was able to get very close to the podium in the final. I gave everything I had and I’m very satisfied and this fifth place is my best result here, so I’m very happy”.
A top5 that gives morale also for the next appointment: “Now I focus on next Sunday’s Liege-Bastogne-Liege that of these last three races in the North is the one best suited to my characteristics and so I will work to try to collect another good result”.
Alé BTC Ljubljana team manager Fortunato Lacquaniti is also fully satisfied: “Considering that we couldn’t deploy the best line-up yet, I’m very satisfied with how the girls rode today. Mavi was very good. We had studied the climb well yesterday, she knew where to rest and where to attack and she did everything perfectly as we had planned. Unfortunately, the four riders in front of her are a bit more explosive than her, who is a pure climber and she suffered a bit more on the climb. But this fifth place is a very good result, Mavi confirms to be in a good condition and also continues our positive tradition at the Flèche that is a race that we always like a lot”.
