Another good placement for Alé BTC Ljubljana in a prestigious race of the international calendar UCI Women’s WorldTour, as the Amstel Gold Race Ladies Edition, in Holland.
Good sixth place today for the Spanish Mavi Garcia on the finish line of Berg en Terblijt where the race, in extremis, was decided with a bunch sprint won by the Dutch Marianne Vos of Jumbo-Visma.
Mavi Garcia was the last spearhead of the Italian team, able to resist in the group of the best.
The 116,3 km race was designed on a circuit to be repeated seven times and with several walls, including the Geulhemmerberg, the Bemelerberg and the Cauberg, symbol of this race.
Kasia Niewiadoma (Canyon SRAM) and Elisa Longo Borghini (Trek-Segafredo) went on the attack at the end of the race and were caught by the leading group just a few hundred metres from the finish. In the front group there were Vollering, Vos, Moolman-Pasio, Van Vleuten, Uttrup Ludwig, Soraya Paladin, Spratt and, of course, our Mavi Garcia.
In the final sprint the Spanish athlete did what she could, as sprinting is not her speciality, and still managed to get a precious place. The team will be back in the saddle on Wednesday 21st April for the Fleche Wallonne Féminine.
