The Giro d’Italia Donne ended today in Friuli Venezia Giulia, with the Alé BTC Ljubljana team playing a leading role. In the most important stage race in the world, in the presence of the best athletes on the international scene, on their home roads, the Italian team finished with two of its athletes in the top 10 of the general classification.

Fifth place overall for the Spanish champion Mavi Garcia and eighth place for Tatiana Guderzo. The Giro was again won by the phenomenal Dutch Anna Van der Breggen of the SD Worx.

Out of ten stages, for eight times Alé BTC Ljubljana put at least one of its athletes in the top ten of the classification, got a great third place in the Team Time Trial, came close to the podium on a couple of occasions with Marta Bastianelli, but above all showed every day that it can count on a great group of athletes.

There is great satisfaction in the words of team manager Fortunato Lacquaniti: “We close today an excellent Giro. Finishing with a fifth and an eighth place in the general classification is a great result. Especially if we look at who is in front of us, we can understand even more the value of our results. Apart from SD Worx, who dominated the entire podium with the Dutchwomen, we are the only other team that can boast two of its riders in the top ten. In the history of our team it is definitely the best Giro d’Italia ever. The girls did a great job. We managed to be protagonists at all times. We started with a great performance in the Team Time Trial and then we came close to the podium in other stages. It’s worth noting that there were only five of us left after the first stage, with two riders in the classification, so the other three riders had to make a lot of sacrifices. It’s been a tough ten days, but it couldn’t have gone any better and we’ve shown that we’re a strong team. I liked Marta Bastianelli a lot, she finished this Giro in growth and this is very important also in Olympic perspective. Even today she was there in front and only a fall prevented her from being able to stay with the best. For Garcia and Guderzo, the classification speaks for itself. They were very good. Tomasi and Trevisi have worked very hard and also thanks to their determination we have obtained this exceptional result”.
