Alé BTC Ljubljana team will not be at the start of the Women’s Tour of Flanders on Sunday. After seven days of quarantine after the positive results before last week’s Gent-Wevelgem, riders and team staff, who remained in solitary confinement in Belgium, will undergo the final Covid-19 test between today and tomorrow, the results of which will be completed tomorrow.
Regardless of the test results, this doesn’t allow the team to have the technical time to organise the trip to Flanders.
Sports director Fortunato Lacquaniti explains: “With great regret we have to give up the race. There are deadlines and rules to be respected and we have no other choice. In addition, the riders have been practically at a standstill for a week and would have no way of facing such an important and demanding race in optimal conditions”.
A difficult decision and that leaves a great displeasure to the whole team and in particular to the Italian champion Marta Bastianelli that won the Tour of Flanders a year ago and still aimed to be protagonist.
